Passion and Resurrection

Saturday 24 March 2012, 7.30pm

Leicestershire Chorale presents the regional premiere of Eriks Esenvalds iconic new cantata for passiontide. The piece that was first performed in the UK in 2010, was released on disc by Hyperion in February. Critics and audience members were captivated by its haunting beauty and intensity. It is set to become a modern classic of the genre.
Alongside this new music sit two old favourites, of no less impact than the Esenvalds. Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis is one of the most well-known and best loved pieces of English music. A regular feature on Classic FM, its constant repetition over the airwaves has not dulled its appeal in any way.
Tallis’s setting of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, a Lenten text, is surely one of the gems of English renaissance choral music.
Three great works in one unmissable programme!
