Bach Johannes Passion

Saturday 5 April 2014, 7.30pm

J.S. Bach’s setting of the Passion according to St John has become one of the most widely performed musical settings of the Passion text in the history of modern Christendom. A brutally direct and gripping work; yet with a refined beauty and heart-rending emotion; it is perhaps the most approachable of the composer’s large-scale oratorios. To have the opportunity to hear a performance in the original language, at original pitch with period instruments and a historically informed approach, is a rare occurrence outside of the major UK musical centres. We will be joined by a team of exciting young soloists, some with connections to Leicester and the Chorale.
