Fire and Water:

Saturday 21 June 2014, 8pm

Thomas Weelkes epic madrigal Oft did I marle sets the tone for this sequence of words and music with its line ‘But fire and water there may mell, where love and hate together dwell’. This programme of opposing moods and texts will include music by Morten Lauridsen (from his Madrigali – Fire Madrigals), Tomas Luis de Victoria (Vidi speciosam), Gabriel Faure (Cantique de Jean Racine), Herbert Howells (Like as the hart) and many others. We will intersperse our choral music with solo songs and suitable poetry.
