This Have I Done For My True Love

Friday 16 March 2018, 7.45pm

The choral music of Ralph Vaughan Williams features strongly in the latter half of our Anniversary Season and rightly so, as it seems the perfect vehicle for a choir such as ours. Perhaps the most exacting piece of music the he wrote for voices, the setting of the Mass Ordinaries in the key of G Minor will test our choral discipline to the limit but also offers a huge reward for paying careful attention to the delicate nuance of this most English of musical languages. We add to the Vaughan Williams music by another English great, Gustav Holst, most famous for his Planets Suite. His gift for soaring melody and searing harmony wasn’t only restricted to his writing for instruments and is very much evident in both his a cappella and accompanied choral music. We are delighted to be returning to the fine acoustic of St James the Greater for such a well matched programme.
