DESCRIPTION:Music by Monteverdi and the Franco-Flemish School\nWith David Cowen Organ \nWe begin our concerts of 2019 with a lesser-known but rather glorious Parody Mass by Monteverdi\, which draws its musical motivic inspiration from a six-part motet by the much earlier Franco-Flemish composer Nicolas Gombert. Whilst the mass ostensibly looks back to the stile antico (old style) of Palestrina\, and of course Gombert himself\, it is still imbued with a stylish touch that hints at music found in Monteverdi’s Vespers and other later works.  \nWe pair the mass and its parody motet with other settings from the Franco-Flemish school by Josquin and Adrian Willaert\, whose texts all begin with the same opening words: In Illo Tempore ‘At that time’. \nTickets £12 from TicketSource.
