Choral Workshop Day of Venetian Music

We are delighted to welcome experienced, enthusiastic singers for our Choral Workshop sessions (10.30am-1.00pm, 2.30pm-5.00pm) learning a variety of Venetian inspired ‘cori spezzati’ polychoral works by Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, Hans Leo Hassler and, in the 350th-anniversary year of his death, Heinrich Schütz; also including music by nun-composers Isabella Leonarda and Chiara Margarita Cozzolani. With a rich continuo accompaniment played on period instruments.
Workshops will be directed by Tom Williams, one of the region’s leading exponents of the choral tradition. A choral scholar at King’s Cambridge, for the last twenty five years or so he has worked as a freelance singer, conductor and singing teacher. He is a core member of the acclaimed EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble, a Choirman at Temple Church and sang with Stephen Layton’s choir Polyphony.
The day will include Tea and Cake with Paul McCreesh – an informal Q&A session with our great Maestro and Patron, founder and Artistic Director of the Gabrieli Consort and Players.
Concert (6.30pm) – an opportunity to perform to guests and supporters.
