Bach Johannes Passion
5 April 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
J.S. Bach’s setting of the Passion according to St John has become one of the most widely performed musical settings of the Passion text in the history of modern Christendom. A brutally direct and gripping work; yet with a refined beauty and heart-rending emotion; it is perhaps the most approachable of the composer’s large-scale oratorios.
To have the opportunity to hear a performance in the original language, at original pitch with period instruments and a historically informed approach, is a rare occurrence outside of the major UK musical centres. We will be joined by a team of exciting young soloists, some with connections to Leicester and the Chorale.
